Sample hiking schedule
Here is a sample hiking schedule you can use for your own local outdoor skills program:
September – Introductions, create a hiking journal, hiking essentials, short hike
October – Compass and GPS skills, orienteering, short hike
November – Create a first aid kit, basic hiking first aid, short hike
December – Trail food preparation, Leave No Trace introduction, short hike
January – Introductions to snow shoes and take a field trip to a state park
February – More Leave No Trace and wildlife observations, short hike
March – Planning a hike, journal and activity guide work, medium hike
April – Finalizing plans for last hike, nature art, medium hike
May – Field trip for a longer, end of the year hike and celebration
