Farmland rental rates are the largest input cost a farmer has. Negotiating a fair rental agreement that satisfies the landowner and the farmer is a challenge.
Extension offers free farmland rental rate workshops online and in-person across Minnesota. Workshops cover local historic and projected farmland rental rate trends and current farmland values and sales. We also walk through a worksheet to help participants create a fair rental agreement. Worksheets examine costs and determine an affordable rent for a farmer, the rate of return to the landlord at current market values, and flexible rental agreements.
