Choose Health: Food, Fun and Fitness

Little girl with yogurt

Choose Health: Food, Fun, and Fitness (CHFFF) is an educational program for 3rd to 6th graders that uses experiential learning to teach healthy eating and active play.

Objectives

CHFFF participants will learn how to:

  • Eat more fruits, vegetables, and whole grain foods.
  • Eat fewer high-fat and high-sugar foods.
  • Drink low-fat milk and water instead of sweetened drinks.
  • Make 60 minutes of active play a part of their daily routine.

Space and time requirements

The Choose Health: Food, Fun, and Fitness program consists of six, hands-on sessions lasting about 60-90 minutes each. All sessions can be adapted to meet the learning needs of participants, and within reason fit the space and time needs of the partnering agency.

More information

Choose Health: Food, Fun, and Fitness is based on a curriculum developed by educators and researchers at Cornell University with the goal of changing behaviors to prevent childhood obesity and chronic disease.

CHFFF supports the United States Department of Agriculture’s 2015 Dietary Guidelines for Americans and the accompanying MyPlate food guide. Each CHFFF session includes interactive nutrition activities, food preparation, active games, a goal-setting challenge, and a family newsletter.
