Learn about intriguing lichen properties, including smell, color changes, and air quality predictions, and how lichens play an important role in our ecosystems. Find out how you can contribute data to the Minnesota Lichen Map Project to help researchers better understand populations of lichen species in Minnesota.

The workshop will include formal instruction on lichen identification, how to photograph lichens, and tips on where to find them. Attendees will practice lichen identification and photography skills at the beautiful Cloquet Forestry Center, home to unique lichen communities.

Advanced training courses provide Master Naturalists and the public with opportunities to participate in a recreational activity and learn about a new natural resource topic. Topics build on the curriculum taught in our core biome courses, but participants do not need to be Master Naturalists to take any of the advanced training courses.
