Grow. Harvest. Eat. this summer at the Arb

It's meaningful — and fun — to grow the food you harvest, prepare and put on your plate. A new program series at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum, "Grow. Harvest. Eat.," focuses on a diverse array of plants that will expand your salad horizons (and get away from the usual romaine and cherry tomatoes with ranch).

Extension horticulture educators Julie Weisenhorn and Laura Irish-Hanson and Extension Master Gardeners are joining Arboretum chef Beth Fisher on June 12 in a small group garden-to-plate hands-on culinary experience.

Spend time with Julie, Laura and master gardener volunteers learning how to grow salad ingredients and harvest some of them directly from the bountiful foodscape outside the new Myers Education Center. Afterward, the class will bring the harvest into the kitchen classroom where Chef Beth will show you how to craft a summer salad that celebrates the freshness of these harvested treasures.

You'll leave with seeds, recipes and growing instructions for a variety of plants you can grow at home.
