From the dean - Winter 2025-26

Extension Dean Bev Durgan talks with a 4-H'er at the 2025 Minnesota State Fair.

Dear friends,

Over the past year, Extension faculty and staff have been discussing how our organization can best serve our stakeholders in the next five years. The world has changed considerably since our last strategic plan was implemented in 2020, and it is important that our priorities and strategies reflect those changes.

One thing that has not changed is that Extension’s greatest strength lies in its people. Our employees, participants, volunteers and donors who are affiliated with Extension live and work in every part of Minnesota. Because of this broad and diverse network, Extension remains grounded, relevant and connected — no matter how quickly the world around us evolves.

This edition of Source provides a glimpse of how Extension’s educational programs are making a difference — supporting green energy, the production of safe, affordable food, and inspiring the next generation of community leaders.

As you read the stories, I invite you to consider this question: What additional needs does your community have that Extension could address through its educational programming? We would like to hear from you, whether that is through a note, an email or phone call, or simply visiting with an Extension representative.

Extension thrives because of our partnerships and because of your support. I look forward to a bright future and the many ways we will continue working together so that every community can thrive.

Thank you,

Bev Durgan, Dean
