Extension is an ever-changing and growing organization, and this edition of Source showcases the impact and the innovation of Extension’s educational programming across our state. The 2020 Extension strategic plan states that while our organizational goals remain the same, fulfilling the land-grant mission in a world of emerging challenges will require new approaches. Those challenges include globalization and a competitive marketplace of ideas; an increasingly diverse society; technological advances; broad and variable funding streams; and eroding public trust of hierarchical, traditional systems.
This edition of Source highlights how Extension educational programming is addressing those challenges, whether it is by building community through gardening, food, and collaboration, or by using technology and on-farm partnerships to conserve water while maintaining crop quality. Extension faculty and educators are serious about making a difference in Minnesota communities, and they are adapting to changing needs in real time.
Of course, none of this programming would be possible without the support and collaboration of our stakeholders. Thank you for all that you do for Extension, whether that includes advocacy, financial support, volunteering or simply sharing your story of how Extension has made a difference.
I hope you enjoy reading these stories and that they inspire you to become even more connected to Extension.
