From the Dean: Fall 2018

Dear friends,

Bev Durgan, Dean

As you may know, private giving is a growing part of how Extension programs are funded. For the past several years, Extension has been part of the University of Minnesota’s fund-raising campaign, “Driven.” The campaign goal of $4 billion is the largest in the University of Minnesota history and the first to include Extension.

Extension’s supporters are doing their part. As of the end of August, donors have contributed just over $9.5 million, or about 60 percent of our goal of $16 million by the campaign’s end in 2021.

Those funds will be used for programs across Extension, focused on our primary goals of:

  • Creating opportunities for young people from across the state to learn skills outside traditional classrooms.
  • Sharing practical knowledge and allowing Extension to quickly respond to changes that affect Minnesotans’ well-being.
  • Cultivating new and emerging leaders who will guide our communities in the coming decades.
  • Attracting and retaining faculty and Extension educators who can listen to Minnesotans’ needs and collaborate to deliver solutions.

This fall, we are formally introducing the Extension campaign at a campaign kickoff event. We’re also announcing the new Extension Dean’s Circle, a giving society that honors donors to Extension and Minnesota 4-H with life to-date giving of $10,000 and above. Their dedicated support over the years has helped Extension’s bold vision of creating a stronger Minnesota.

I’m looking forward to the next exciting phase of this campaign, and I invite you to learn more about it on the Extension website or by contacting our development team.
