Core components of quality STEM

4-H team cheers because their engineering project succeeded

Have you wondered “How can I ensure I am providing a quality science or engineering educational experience?” 

This training will improve the quality of your STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) programs, lessons and activities by helping you to identify, incorporate and facilitate the core components of science and engineering processes.

Who should attend

This workshop is intended for program providers who direct and support STEM offerings for youth.

You will

  • Be introduced to the components of a quality STEM program, including the Engineering Design Process, the Scientific Inquiry Model and the Science and Engineering Practices.
  • Discuss and apply each component to a hands-on STEM-focused activity.
  • Have the opportunity to apply these core components to improve your own lesson plan (full day and virtual series only).
  • Examine, discuss and use the core components to improve teaching practices and program implementation (full day and virtual series only).
  • Reflect on the usefulness of the resources provided.

  • Half-day workshop in-person (3 hours or less)

  • Full-day workshop in-person (4-6 hours)
    • Engineering Design, Science Inquiry and Science and Engineering Practices
  • Virtual (series)

    • Science Inquiry and Science and Engineering Practices (3 - 90 minutes sessions)
    • Engineering Design, Science Inquiry & Science and Engineering Practices (5 - 90 minutes sessions)
