Second homeowners are an integral part of the social and economic fabric of communities in the Central and West Central lakes districts of Minnesota. Extension Educator Ryan Pesch and former Educator Merritt Bussiere studied second homeowners in eight counties of Central and West Central Minnesota.
"We reached out to local, county, and regional partners and said, 'What do you want to know from these people?' Bussiere says. "They threw all sorts of great questions at us: Who are they? Where are they? What do they spend? Do they have business experience that they might someday bring to their second home community?"
Questions from these informants helped to structure a survey, which received responses from well over 500 second-home households.
