Halvorson Family
The Halvorson Family has farmed southwest of Madison since 1936, when Terry’s grandpa, Martin, purchased the “home farm” in Garfield Township. Martin’s sons, Myron and Boise, carried the family tradition forward. Myron and Boise fed cattle until 1996.
Terry’s cousin, Mark, started farming in 1984, and he retired in 2022.
Terry started farming in the spring of 1986, when he purchased some bred gilts. The family has been raising pigs ever since.
The farm has focused on growing corn and soybeans. Everyone pitches in as needed, especially during the busy seasons. It is a team effort, with much reward coming from working side by side as a family. They especially enjoy harvest meals on the tailgate of the pickup.
Today, Terry and Terri remain involved in the daily work alongside the next generation. Their son Wyatt and his wife Makenna are active in all areas of the farm, with Wyatt managing the nursery barns. Their daughter, Jordan, and her husband, Brandon Bornhorst, are also involved in every part of the operation, with Brandon managing the finishing barns. Their daughter, Chelsey, and her husband, Travis Naab, live and work in Waconia, MN, and remain connected to the family’s legacy. The Halvorsons are members of Faith Lutheran Church and are proud to be continuing a tradition that spans nearly 90 years.
