Agritourism is at a crossroads between food access and outdoor recreation — fishing, wine tasting, picking apples, and other activities. This combination of food and recreation required significant real-time changes throughout the last growing season. For producers, it's impacting decisions they're making for this season and beyond.
Join us as Annie Klodd and Ryan Pesch discuss trends they are seeing on the ground in their work with producers.
Discussion host: DeeDee LeMier, UMN Extension, Tourism Center
Guests:
- Ryan Pesch, Extension educator

Tourism and resident recruitment are closely connected, shifting the ways visitors and residents experience a community. Recruitment of residents is especially important in a tight labor market. It’s not sufficient to simply show potential residents the job — they must also envision their life there.
Join our conversation as we explore the overlap of tourism and resident recruitment.
During the session, Ben Winchester (University of Minnesota Extension) will share information about resident recruitment trends, and how attracting new residents is vital to ensure the future of our rural communities. This resident recruitment model incorporates research on community development, economic development, and tourism.
Additionally, C. Andrew Northrop (Michigan State University Extension) will share the Tourism Area Life Cycle, which explores how community tourism shifts over time. His work in community development has identified emerging trends in how newcomers and long-time residents view tourism assets.
