The Small Farm Startup School is for small-scale landowners or renters interested in learning how to use land for agricultural purposes. You will develop an agricultural business plan you can take to a loan office.

This course will provide new and beginning farmers with a solid background in small farm operations, management, and business planning. Topics are tailored to the tri-county area.

  • Soil management
  • Fruit and vegetable crop production
  • Food regulations
  • Livestock production
  • Biosecurity

The seven-week course meets on Wednesdays from 5:30 to 8 p.m., September 11 to October 30. There will also be two Saturday farm tours on September 28 and October 19.

Cost

  • $250 - Landowners or renters in Wright, McLeod or Meeker counties
  • $350 - Landowners or renters in other counties

Registration includes participation for two people from the same farm, dinner for all 7 weeks, handouts and publications, farm tours, and a farm visit from your local Extension educators.
