4-H clover Hearts N Hooves (Horse Drill Team)

The Hearts and Hooves 4-H Club is an Equine focused club but open to all youth.  We meet monthly during the winter months in Hokah unless we have an outing such as bowling, skating or other fun activities.  In June through August, we meet weekly on Tuesdays, to practice our horsemanship and our Drill Routines.  We do some fundraising activities throughout the year, make cards for the Nursing home residents, ring bells for the Salvation Army, learn new things and play games at our club meetings.

Drill Teams
We have 2 Drill Teams that practice weekly.  The Novice team is made up of youth who are perhaps in their 1st year on the team, are unable to commit to the schedule of the Competition Team, or are not yet old enough to compete.

The Competition Team meets Twice weekly June through August. Youth must have finished 6th grade to compete and be able to keep up with the fast paced and complicated maneuvers the competition demands.

The competition team competes at the Regional level in Late July or Early August hoping to win an opportunity to compete at the MN 4-H State Horse Show in September.  Both teams perform at our County Fair in August.

Last year we had the highest score at the State Competition of all the teams in all the classes for Drill!

To ride on the Drill Team:
  • Youth must be a member of the Horse Project
  • Must have completed 3rd Grade
  • Must be able to ride in a group
  • Must have a positive attitude and willingness to learn
  • Must have Team Spirit

Benefits of being on the Drill Team:

If you are interested in joining the team, we are always looking for new members to ride with us.  You can belong to any club in Houston County and if you don't have a horse, there is a lease option available and we can help you locate a suitable mount.
