Becker Family
The Becker family farm began in 1971 when Dave raised his first 4-H steer. Dave and Rose were married in 1978, and they began milking cows and raising beef cattle in Finlayson. They sold their dairy herd in 1984. In 1990, they purchased their farm in Askov, and in 1999, they transitioned from a commercial herd to registered Angus cattle. Today, the operation is focused on seedstock.
The Beckers raise their own crops, including corn, hay and small grains. They incorporate conservation practices such as rotational grazing and no-till when possible and have interseeded legumes, grasses and turnips into their corn.
This past year, they held a mature cow herd dispersal sale, setting a Minnesota record for the highest-selling registered Angus dispersal in the state. They retained 30 young registered animals to continue their program.
The Beckers are members of the Tri-County Cattlemen’s Association and the Minnesota State Cattlemen’s Association. Rose is active in youth education through their church. Both Dave and Rose participated in 4-H, as did their children, continuing the family’s strong connection to youth agricultural programs.
