Faribault County 4-H is proud to announce the winners of its annual senior scholarship competition. The Faribault County 4-H Scholarship is awarded to a Faribault County 4-H graduating senior who is planning to attend a post-secondary institution. Selection is based upon 4-H leadership and service, recommendation letters, school and community involvement, and answers to short essay questions.
The scholarship selection committee awarded a $500 scholarship to Berkley Hagedorn of the Elmore Soaring Eagles club, Braxton O’Rourke of the Barber Flyers club, and Macy Sonnek of the Barber Flyers club.
About the Winners
Berkley will be attending the University of Minnesota’s Carlson School of Management to earn her bachelor’s degree, as well as attending a flight school to become a professional pilot. Berkley stated, “The 4-H experiences I have had and the skills I have gained have helped me greatly and will continue to guide me in the future.”
Braxton will attend South Dakota State University, pursuing a degree in political science/pre-law, before attending law school with plans to help local farmers and businesses. Braxton commented, “I found my love for law and agriculture and decided that I want to […] pursue a career that involves them both.”
Macy plans to attend South Dakota State University for a degree in animal science and a minor in ag business and then either to apply to veterinary schools or stay in the genetics and reproduction side of the cattle industry. Macy said, “I really enjoy being involved in any extracurriculars or community service where I get to talk to and meet new people.”
At County Fair
The winners will be honored at the Faribault County Fair, during the 4-H Awards Night and Public Fashion Revue on Thursday, July 25, as well as at the 4-H Livestock Ribbon Auction on Friday, July 26. They also will be honored at Faribault County 4-H’s annual awards program in November.
