4-H clover Outdoor Enthusiasts, do you know about WHEP?

Was that a mallard or northern shoveler? Is that a gray fox or a red fox?

Join WHEP to find out and take an adventure through our natural world! Each year you will learn about different eco-regions, all their components, and the benefits to you, your community and society that habitat and wildlife can provide.

In the 2024 WHEP competition (held in April), we learned about the Tall Grass

Prairies, including the animals that inhabit this area and the management techniques to sustain these areas. There is hands on learning of skulls, pelts, bird songs, tracks, and scat! You’ll join a group and review scenarios of managing our natural resources and how to live side by side with our creature friends. At the end of the time together there is a friendly competition to showcase your knowledge. Once you are old enough, you may even get the opportunity to go to Nationals, held in a different state each year.

Owen B. from Mighty Clovers represented Swift County 4-H well in this competition and was part of the first place time! He says, " It was fun and you get to study about cool animals and at the end there is a fun, non-competitive competition." If you're interested in joining Owen next year, let Becca know!
