Roseau County Farm Family

Johnson Farms

Earl Johnson is the third generation of his family to farm in northern Minnesota. His grandfather, Jonas Johnson, homesteaded the land in 1907. Earl farmed with his father, Clarence, until Clarence retired. Earl then took over the farm with help from his sons, Scott and Troy.

Earl began farming on his own with 360 acres which has since expanded to 2,200 acres of ryegrass, canola, wheat, sunflowers, and soybeans.

Earl continues to farm but is gradually turning over more land to his sons who will take over the operation. When the boys were young, Earl’s wife, Carol, helped with swathing and grain hauling.

Earl has served on the Salol Elevator Board and what was then the county ASCS committee. Troy serves on the Northern Resources Cooperative Board and Scott manages the Roseau County Soil and Water Conservation District. Earl and Carol volunteer at the Four Seasons Senior Center and Carol at the Life Care Medical Center. The whole family enjoys hunting and fishing.
