Nobles County Farm Family

Aaron and Kia Nystrom

Aaron and Kia Nystrom are the fourth generation of the Nystroms to live on the original family homestead. They’ve proudly upheld the family tradition of a mixed agricultural enterprise like generations before them. The Nystrom farm has raised it all, from apples to pigs to melons to row crops.

However, in 2012 when Aaron and Kia first moved to the farm, that tradition was on the brink of ceasing altogether. So the couple developed a new shared dream. Aaron and Kia aimed to strengthen the operation in their lifetime so it could be passed to their children for a sustainable future in farming if they chose it.

The Nystroms currently grow corn and soybeans and operate a feedlot along with cow/calf pairs. The family has transformed the on-farm Nystrom Orchard into a destination in southwest Minnesota connecting consumers to agriculture via apples, beef, and tasting experiences in the orchard.

Aaron and Kia’s three children, Kip, Cort, and Thea, work alongside their parents whenever possible.

Aaron and Kia have continued off-farm employment to make their ambitious goals a reality. Aaron works as a large-animal veterinarian and Kia as a cattle health representative. Their professional responsibilities help shape the future of the farming operation. The Nystroms greatly appreciate the collaboration and support of their immediate family and neighbors in making their dream a reality.

Aaron and Kia are involved in the Worthington Christian Reformed Church where they serve as youth leaders. They are members of the Cooperative Farmers Elevator’s core class. The Nystrom children are involved in Nobles County 4-H, where they showcase products from the family’s mixed agricultural enterprise.
