All 4-H animal projects

You will need to identify all 4-H animal projects, including breeding heifers, cow/calf pairs, prospect calves (steers and heifers), dairy goats, dogs, horses, llama-alpacas, meat goats, poultry (doves and pigeons), rabbits, sheep and swine.

Ear tags and an ear tagger are available at the Goodhue County Extension office.

Animals MUST be identified in 4-H Online by May 15, 2024. All market beef should have been identified by Feb. 15, 2024.

Cloverbuds do not need to identify animals at this time.

Dogs

Minnesota 4-H requires a completed vaccination certificate signed by a licensed, accredited veterinarian. All dogs MUST have current rabies vaccinations. Your veterinarian must document on this form whether your dog’s rabies vaccination is current for one year, two years or three years by filling in the “Date Expires” blank. Additionally, a current Distemper, Hepatitis, Leptospirosis, Parainfluenza and Parvovirus (DHLPP) are required for 4-H dogs unless otherwise noted. Dog registrations, including ID, are due May 6, 2024.

Horses

Horse ID requirements:

  • All required information must be completed in 4-H Online
  • A photo must be uploaded into 4-H Online (the photo on Coggins is not the required photo upload)
  • If available by the May 15 ID deadline, a current negative Coggins should be uploaded. If it is not available by the May 15 ID deadline, the horse ID will still be considered complete, but a current negative Coggins must be submitted and on file before the horse can participate in any group practices or competitions.
  • The horse’s name on the Coggins MUST match the horse's name in 4-H Online. The owner listed on the Coggins doesn’t matter as long as the horse matches.

If you have any questions, please reach out to mnext-goodhue@umn.edu or call 651-385-3100.
