Lyon County Farm Family

Pochardt Family

The Pochardt family has been farming in Lyon County since 1890. Over the years, they have raised beef cattle, corn, soybeans and small grains. In 2016, Dan and Kelly Pochardt took over the farm. Today, they operate a cow-calf and feedlot operation and raise crops and alfalfa. They also raise a variety of small animals, including reindeer that are part of their Red Stable Reindeer business. They bring reindeer to communities, schools and businesses throughout the Christmas season.

Dan and Kelly have four children, Jasper, Avery, Maverick and Paisley, who all help out on the farm, from raising their own bottle calves to growing sweet corn to establishing a pumpkin patch to adding comic relief! They also play an important role during the Christmas season, helping with the reindeer business and farm events. Their farm also has the support of Dan’s parents, Bruce and Crystal Pochardt; Dan’s uncle, Terry Pochardt; and their employee, Jesse Orvis.

Dan and Kelly are active members of the community. Dan is a member of Zion Lutheran Church, the Southwest Cattlemen’s Association, and the Lyon County Corn and Soybean Growers. Kelly teaches art at Lynd Public School and occasionally offers art classes for the community, including through 4-H. She is a den leader for the Cub Scouts and volunteers for a variety of youth sports and community activities. Their children participate in activities such as Cub Scouts, track, cross country, figure skating, basketball, volleyball, baseball, theater and piano.
