Around the world amateur scientists are contributing to scientific research under the guidance of professional scientists to mutual benefit. This is the essence of “public participation in scientific research” or participatory science. From uploading nature observations, to crowdsourcing availability of restrooms in public parks, to helping transcribe historical medical records, citizen scientists of all ages are collecting and analyzing vast bodies of information.

This presentation will explain the emergence of this new way of doing science and help you discover how YOU, regardless of your age, science background or physical abilities, can help answer real science questions. The presenter will leave you curious and empowered to become active with these kinds of projects. Have a smartphone or tablet handy to explore resources if you like.

This webinar is part of Extension's 2026 Healthy Aging Month Webinar Series.
