This course is part of the University of Minnesota Extension’s Serve It Up Safely™ program. It teaches how to follow food safety rules based on the Minnesota Food Code, current research, and industry best practices to help prevent the spread of foodborne illness in a food business.
Outbreaks of foodborne illness linked to contaminated fruits and vegetables show that produce can become unsafe at any point from farm to table.
Food handlers play a key role in preventing this contamination.
In each module, you’ll learn about common food safety risks and practical ways to reduce them in your establishment. The course also includes training tips and resources for your staff. Some modules provide sample cleaning and sanitation procedures that you can download and adapt for your business.
By the end of the course, you’ll be able to recognize risks and use best practices to reduce the chance of foodborne illness from fresh produce.
