"Recognizing the involvement, dedication, and passion of Minnesota's dairy youth."
The Minnesota 4-H Dairy Showcase is a unique recognition program that provides cash awards to recognize the involvement, passion, and dedication of Minnesota’s 4-H dairy youth. The program would not be possible without the support of businesses and organizations committed to the future of the Minnesota’s dairy industry. The 4-H Dairy Showcase takes place at the conclusion of the Minnesota State Fair 4-H livestock encampment.
2020 4-H Dairy Showcase update
The Minnesota 4-H Dairy Showcase is embracing the unexpected circumstances that 2020 brought us and will be proceeding with a unique, meaningful recognition program. This year's program will recognize those 4-H members who are nearing the end of their 4-H careers.
All 4-H Dairy Project members in grades 12 and 13 will be eligible to apply for this special edition of the Minnesota 4-H Dairy Showcase. There will be NO requirement that 4-H'ers exhibit at the State 4-H Dairy Show – live or virtual. This effort seeks to recognize the dairy program’s senior members and provide a capstone celebration for their 4-H dairy career.
Showcase recipients will be selected based on their leadership and accomplishments in 4-H and their community (70%), and a virtual presentation demonstrating their knowledge of the dairy industry (30%). Winners will be announced at a virtual program at the end of August and receive a cash prize.
The announcement of showcase winners will be announced on the Minnesota 4-H Dairy Showcase Facebook Page on Aug 27 at 8 p.m
For 2020 only, the Minnesota 4-H Dairy Showcase will be recognizing those nearing the end of their career in the 4-H Dairy Project. All 4-H Dairy Project members in grades 12 and 13 will be eligible to apply for this special edition of the showcase.
Those eligible to compete will complete an online leadership portfolio that awards points in the areas of 4-H and dairy industry involvement and leadership, along with community, school or church involvement. The portfolios will be judged by a panel of anonymous judges.
New this year: Those applying will also be required to do a virtual presentation that demonstrates their knowledge of the dairy industry. More information on what is expected for the virtual presentation will be announced shortly.
The leadership profile will account for 70 percent of the scorecard and virtual presentation will account for 30 percent of the scorecard.

Recognition for younger youth
The Rising Stars program will be temporarily suspended for 2020 given the current situation with COVID-19.
The easy-to-complete online leadership portfolio will ask about involvement and leadership in the dairy industry, 4-H, community, church and school. Two brief questions will give youth the opportunity to share what they have learned in the dairy project this past year and goals for the upcoming year.
Leadership profile judging
- Judges will work in teams of two to evaluate and score profiles, ensuring scoring consistency.
- There are improved and expanded instructions provided to 4-H members on how best to prepare their leadership profile. This will include tips for completing the profile and emphasize the importance of “describing your impact”.
For 2020 only, the 4-H Dairy Showcase will recognize those 4-H Dairy Project members that have completed grades 12 and 13. There is no requirement that the applicant exhibits at the State 4-H Dairy Show – live or virtual.
