Brown County Farm Family

Brandon and Jody Anderson family

The Hanson farm was established in its current location in 1934 by Jody's great-grandfather, Henry Hanson. The farm has been passed down through generations with Jody and her husband, Brandon, currently transitioning into ownership from her parents, Jim and Jeri Hanson. The farm has always consisted of crops and livestock which continues to this day.

The current operation raises corn, soybeans and registered Hereford cattle. Brandon is the primary operator of the grain side of the business, with Jody focusing on the cattle side. The Andersons market breeding cattle through private treaty and an annual bull sale in March. Brandon and Jody recently created

Bashaw Beef LLC to market custom processed beef and individual cuts to further add value to their beef.

The Andersons’ kids are starting to help with the day-to-day responsibilities of growing up on a farm including chores and working with show cattle. The family will be involved again with the Minnesota Jr. Hereford Association now that Rhett is of age. This was an important part of Jody's youth, and the Andersons look forward to giving a similar opportunity to their children.

Brandon and Jody have three children: Rhett, Cameron and Charlotte. Jody’s parents, Jim and Jeri Hanson, continue to support the operation as does Jody's aunt June who comes home each fall to run the grain cart.

The Andersons are members of the Minnesota Hereford Breeders and the Redwood Area Cattlemen Association. Brandon serves on the Comfrey Public School Board, is a Shriner, and was a Brown County SWCD supervisor.

Jody is a Sunday School teacher, a Minnesota Hereford Breeders Board Member, and a 4-H club leader.

The Andersons open their farm to local schools and community organizations several times a year.

Brandon and Jody enjoy watching the Vikings and Twins and following their kids around to their events.
