Horse hay suppliers in Minnesota

Quick facts

When buying hay from a private party or from a hay auction, consider the following:

  • Buy good quality hay.
  • Inspect several bales and evaluate them for content (grass or alfalfa), maturity (presence or absence of seed heads or flowers), smell, color and touch.
  • Ensure bales are free of mold, dust and weeds.
  • If possible, have the hay tested for quality before purchase.
  • Try to keep your hay type (grass or alfalfa) consistent.
