- You may need to register for a mix of in-person and online options to satisfy your requirements.
- You may need to register in separate transactions for some combinations.
- Additional workshops or courses may be added during the year. Subscribe to our email list to receive these notices.
This page includes registration options for categories A, B (drone), E, F, I, J, L, and P.
See 2026 options for Pesticide safety recertification for Categories A, C, H, K, N, O on a separate page.
Recertification
Recertification for commercial or noncommercial applicators is required to maintain your license. We often refer to recertification as when you “take a workshop.”
The recertification cycle depends on your categories. If you’re not sure if you need to recertify this year, look at your applicator license card for “Attend a Workshop By” dates or look up your license on the MDA License Lookup Page.
- Categories B, S and SPCS recertify every year.
- Categories A with E, F, J, L, O, P, Q, R recertify every 2 years.
- Categories A with C or H recertify every 3 years.
If you need to recertify this year, you can do this by:
- Completing an approved continuing education workshop or online course anytime they are available in that year, or
- Retesting with the Minnesota Department of Agriculture.
UMN Extension PSEE offers these recertification options:
- In-person classroom workshop for categories A, B (Drone only), C, E, H, J, L, or O
- Field Day workshops for categories A, B (Drone only), C, E, H, and L
- Self-paced online courses for categories A, B (Drone only), C, E, F, H, J, L, P
Category B and online courses
If you need to recertify Category B, please read the section below. We have online and in-person workshops for drone users only.
PSEE is now offering self-paced online recertification courses through Canvas. Learn about the offerings and requirements for this option.
You must have Category B on your license to use drones for pesticide applications.
Drone recertification is required EVERY year. In some years, you’ll also have to recertify in other categories (review your license card for dates).
- If you need to recertify for Category B plus other categories this year, your options are:
- Register for an in-person workshop that has your categories, plus a B add-on session.
- Register for a workshop for your categories, and also register for the online course for Category B.
- Register for online courses for all of your categories, including B.
- If you only need to recertify in Category B this year, your options are:
- Register for an in-person workshop that covers A and B (where available).
- Register for online courses for A and B.
Options to register for Category B:
- Self-paced online course. The course is available from March 15 to April 12, 2026. Multiple categories are available on the registration page. You can select Category B from the available list for this option.
