The Minnesota 4-H Outdoor Education Ambassador Program is a leadership opportunity for youth in grades 9 through one year post-high school (grade 13).
Ambassadors promote and enhance the Minnesota 4-H State Shooting Sports and Wildlife Program and the Minnesota 4-H ATV Safety Program by positively representing the programs at local, regional and state events throughout the year.
How to become a 4-H Outdoor Education Ambassador
To be eligible to be an Outdoor Education Ambassador, youth must:
- Be enrolled as a Minnesota 4-H member.
- Be between grades 9 through one year post-high school (grade 13).
- Be positive role models in their club and county programs.
- Demonstrate strong interpersonal and speaking skills.
- Be knowledgeable in the shooting sports & wildlife project areas and/or ATV Safety Program.
Applications and recommendation forms are received throughout the year.
To apply:
- Review the background information describing the qualifications of ambassadors and the expectations prior to applying.
- Youth must complete the application and identify two adults who meet the following requirements to provide a recommendation on their behalf:
- A non-relative 4-H staff member (program coordinator, club leader, state staff, etc.) must complete and submit the ambassador reference form.
- An additional adult who is not a 4-H staff member or relative (coach, teacher, organization adviser, etc.) must complete and submit the ambassador reference form.
- Applications will be reviewed and selected by the ambassador advisory committee.
4-H Outdoor Education Ambassadors will:
Attend a fall orientation and a spring training retreat in which they learn about the Minnesota 4-H Outdoor Education Program, develop personal vision statements and learn skills in public presentation, etiquette and partnership development.
Be actively engaged in the program and attend state and local events throughout the year. Events may include the National Wild Turkey Federation State Convention, children’s activities at 4-H Outdoor Education Summit and State Shoot and Polaris industry events.
