Are you interested in being a part of a team to start a community garden in the City of Hinckley? The University of Minnesota Extension in Pine County is looking for volunteers to be a part of a board to create a community garden in Hinckley!
Community gardens offer a wide range of benefits to a community that include accessing healthy food, reducing food costs, fostering community relationships, encouraging physical activity, creating educational activities and spaces, and reducing environmental impacts. In addition, gardeners can donate produce to a local food shelf to help those in need. Overall, community gardens contribute to a healthier, resilient, and sustainable community.
The goal of a garden board is to create an inclusive space for gardening of all people, ages, and abilities that provides benefits for and to the community. As a member of the garden board you will help write grant proposals/applications, write contracts for public use, help with the design/layout of the garden, and/or provide labor for construction and maintenance.
