The McLeod County Extension Master Gardeners are excited to announce that Gardening Knowledge for Free courses are being offered again in late 2026. This workshop series will feature two in-person sessions on select Mondays in October and November. The sessions will take place from 6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. in the Meeting Room on the McLeod County Fairgrounds.
October 26: So You've Got Shade!
Do you have shady areas in your yard that leave you wondering what will grow there? McLeod County Extension Master Gardeners Debbie and Joyce will explain the different types of shade and share practical plant ideas to help you design inviting, low-light retreats. This educational session offers inspiration, guidance, and a plant list to get you started on creating your own shady haven.
November 16: Potential Invasive Plants in Your Garden
Join McLeod County Extension Master Gardener Roxanne for a look at managing aggressive garden plants. This session examines species such as Solomon's seal, gooseneck loosestrife, perennial vinca, lily of the valley, common yarrow, and black locust that can spread unexpectedly. The presentation includes photographic examples, strategies for containment, an practical techniques for removal.
