The third annual Tri-County Winter Webinar Series will offer community members the opportunity to learn practical skills from Extension experts. Whether you’re a homeowner, small farmer, hobbyist, or simply curious about plants and landscapes, this series provides accessible sessions on gardening, habitat creation, food production, and more.

Session Information

Learn all about backyard composting with Laura Irish-Hanson, Extension Horticulture Educator. We will focus on a wide range of information, including best practices for composting, common mishaps and how to avoid them, various techniques and technologies available, and resources for DIY composting. If you have any questions about composting or any other gardening-related topics, there will be 10 minutes for Q&A after the presentation.

Laura Irish-Hanson is the statewide Extension Educator for Resilient Managed Horticultural Landscapes with the University of Minnesota. She leads efforts to promote climate-adapted, efficient, and ecologically supportive landscape systems in collaboration with property owners, community organizations, and urban stakeholders. With over nine years of teaching and extension experience, she brings expertise in sustainable gardening, resilient plant use, and practical maintenance strategies. Laura also appears regularly on WCCO Radio’s Smart Gardens show and enjoys growing food year-round in her backyard greenhouse.
