Minnesota Drainage Program

The Minnesota Drainage Program encourages farmers, landowners, local government units, and drainage professionals to optimize the public and private benefits of agricultural drainage systems. The program works with counties and Soil and Water Conservation District staff to develop an agenda that meets their drainage and water resource needs, ensuring local drainage issues are addressed.

Program workshops incorporate the expertise and perspectives of industry professionals, researchers, government agencies, contractors, engineers, and other relevant stakeholders.

Topics include:

  • Drainage coefficients
  • Field tile spacing, layout options and strategies
  • Water table management
  • Drainage system design and implementation scenarios
    • Retro-fitting existing systems
    • Installing new or upgrading tile systems at the field/farm scale
    • County ditch repair projects
    • County ditch improvement projects 
  • Conservation drainage practices
    • Edge of field
    • In-field
    • In-channel
  • Landscape-scale water storage 

Certified education credits (CEUs) are offered for Certified Crop Advisers.
