Elbers Family
The Elbers family farm is currently run by Kurt and Lanette Elbers. Their children, Brock, Whitney, Sean and Lanae, also assist. The farm was started in 1947 when William Elbers purchased the property. Kurt’s father, Gilbert, rented the farm from William while continuing to work the land and raise his family there. Kurt grew up working on the farm and milking cows. In 1989, he purchased the farm from William, making it a third-generation operation.
The Elbers operate a 400-head feeder-finish cattle enterprise and rent out their 124 acres of tillable land. They take pride in their teamwork, strong work ethic and family-centered approach to farming.
Lanette introduced the family to 4-H, and the Elbers children grew up showing beef, goats and sheep while also participating in general projects. The skills and determination they developed through farm work and 4-H have supported their continued involvement in agriculture, veterinary sciences, animal care and engineering.
The Elbers remain deeply engaged in their community. Lanette has worked as a registered nurse at Sanford in Luverne for 33 years. She serves as a Sunday school teacher, former youth group leader, 4-H leader and treasurer of the Rock County Farm Bureau. Kurt works as a beef consultant for Chandler Feed. He also serves as a youth group leader, elder and deacon at ARC Church.
