Aquatic Invasive Species Detectors workshops

The spread of aquatic invasive species (AIS) poses a threat to Minnesota's water resources. With over 13 million surface acres of water in the state, there is a need to increase the state's capacity of volunteers and professionals eager to be a part of the solution to aquatic invasive species problems. In partnership with the Minnesota Aquatic Invasive Species Research Center (MAISRC), we are filling that need with the AIS Detectors Core Course.

This program provides high-quality training, developed and reviewed by AIS experts with learning tracks available for both community members and professionals.

Participants will learn:

  • Principles of basic aquatic ecology.
  • AIS identification, impacts and biology.
  • Minnesota rules and regulations.
  • How to prevent the spread of AIS.
  • How to search for and report AIS.

Upon completing the training, participants become Certified AIS Detectors. Community member track participants become part of the AIS Detectors volunteer network and volunteer around the state making a difference in the areas of science, outreach and education, stewardship and support of AIS programs.
