Economic contribution of Alomere Health 2024

Key findings

  • Direct spending: In 2024, Alomere Health employed 935 people and spent $199 million to operate.
    • Spending included $73.4 million in wages, salaries, and benefits to employees. This is the direct effect of the health system.
  • Economic activity: Due to direct spending, Alomere Health generated an estimated $307.1 million in economic activity in the region.
    • The health system supported 1,605 jobs, which paid a total of $107.4 million in wages, salaries, and benefits.
    • The industries that benefited most from Alomere Health included real estate, professional and technical services, and wholesale trade.
  • Capital improvements: Between 2020 and 2024, Alomere Health invested $15.4 million (2024 dollars) in capital improvements, including building projects, equipment purchases, and land improvements.
    • In total, capital investments by Alomere Health generated $23.4 million (2024 dollars) of economic activity between 2020 and 2024. This included $9.6 million in labor income. The improvements supported 110 jobs.
  • Health care industry: Alomere Health accounted for slightly more than one-third of total health care jobs in Douglas County in 2024.
    • The health care industry is the county’s third-largest industry after manufacturing and trade.
    • `The average weekly wage in Douglas County’s health care industry is 10 percent higher than the average weekly wage across all jobs. Health care jobs pay an average weekly wage of $1,152.

About this report

Alomere Health is a non-profit health care system with a regional care focus. Primarily located in Douglas County, Minnesota, Alomere Health treats patients within 28 specialties. The health care system serves patients via five Care Centers of Excellence, including the Cancer Center, Orthopedics and Spine, Primary Care, Rehabilitation, Specialty Care, and Women’s Health. 

Alomere Health delivers care at seven campuses, including a 127-bed hospital with a Level III trauma center, a surgical center, and full-service medical care. Other campuses host local clinics and specialty care services. 
With more than 900 employees, Alomere Health is an important part of the Douglas County economy.

To gain a better understanding of the role the health care system plays in the region, Alomere Health contracted with University of Minnesota Extension to conduct an economic contribution analysis.
