Climate change isn’t a distant threat; it’s already reshaping our communities, ecosystems, and economies today. Our training equips architects, engineers, and planners with skills and practical tools to integrate future climate data into the building design process. The program allows design professionals to incorporate adaptation strategies into their work, better protecting the health, safety and welfare of building owners, operators, users, and the public.
This workshop is facilitated by the University of Minnesota Climate Adaptation Partnership (MCAP) and the national design firm HGA.
Learning objectives
- Define climate resilience in the built environment.
- Identify the best available climate data and information to inform design, including observations, recent events, and climate projections.
- Compare, contrast, and select strategies for enhancing climate resilience in the built environment based on a climate risk assessment.
- Demonstrate a process for prioritizing climate adaptation and solutions based on project size/context, goals, opportunities, and constraints.
Audience
This workshop is intended for those who work on planning and design, MEP, landscape, and civil engineering on new construction and renovation projects.
