Elder family financial exploitation (EFFE) is one of the most prevalent types of elder abuse, impacting approximately 1 in 15 older adults and their families around the globe. 

This webinar will address the complexity and realities of EFFE, critical conversations to prevent EFFE, resources to learn more, and how to reach out for help.

This webinar is part of Extension's 2026 Healthy Aging Month Webinar Series.

Presenters 

  • Sam Roth is a Financial Capability Educator with the University of Minnesota Extension serving Scott and Carver Counties. An Accredited Financial Counselor (AFC), she helps individuals and families build essential skills in budgeting, credit, and financial decision-making. Through research-based education, Sam empowers individuals to achieve greater financial stability and confidence. 
  • Sara Croymans is a Family Resiliency Extension Educator. She is committed to assisting individuals and families in developing critical life skills related to financial capability, housing, climate, and disaster financial preparedness, family transitions, and mental health. Sara is an Accredited Financial Counselor®.
