Test your soil and take the guesswork out of fertilizer recommendations

soil sampling with probe

The Soil Testing Laboratory is part of the Department of Soil, Water, and Climate in the College of Food, Agricultural and Natural Resources.  You can use University of Minnesota's newly renovated  Soil Testing and Research Analytical Lab to get a clear picture of what your soil needs.

Soil testing takes the guesswork out of fertilizer recommendations, ensures fertile soil without pollution of the environment, and makes good economic sense. The Soil Testing and Research Analytical Lab's recommendations are based on laboratory results, soil characteristics, crop history, crop nutrient requirements and are specific to Minnesota locations and conditions.

Watch this University of Minnesota Extension YouTube video on how to take a soil sample.

Sample testing bags are available at the University of Minnesota Extension, Pine County office.
