4-H clover Stearns County 4-H Horse Project Mini Clinics

Stearns 4-H Horse Project Mini Clinics

Time: 6:30 - 8:30 pm
Location: Stearns County Fairgrounds, Sauk Centre
Cost: $5/youth per clinic


May 31st - Western Heritage  

  • The presenter will discuss what the Western Heritage program is and how to get involved. They will also discuss the upcoming mini clinic events offered throughout the summer.  There will be a question and answer period at the end of the clinic. If time allows, you will have a chance to ask about issues you may have regarding the Western Heritage Program. 
  • This speaker is a Western Heritage judge and has been involved in the 4-H horse project for many years as well as a past participant in the Western Heritage Program.
  • No horse required for this clinic. 

June 7th - Ranch Pleasure

  • This clinic will focus on Ranch Pleasure, which was a new 4-H class added in 2022. We will focus on what Ranch Pleasure entails, what the judge is looking for during judging, as well as how to achieve the strides that are involved in the difference between this and Western Pleasure. 
  • With this clinic, bring your horse if you are showing in the Ranch Pleasure class. There will also be time for questions and answers. 
  • The person for this clinic is a 4-H alumni that has been showing ranch horses for 10 years. 

June 21st - Horsemanship English

  • This clinic will focus on the English part of the 4-H horse show. Including the tack that is needed as well as the headstalls and bits commonly used. If you have questions about your tack being correct, please bring it along and she will help you determine what is preferred when showing in that class. You are welcome to bring your horse to this clinic, if desired. 
  • The clinician for this is a 4-H alumni that has trained her own horses in the English parts of showing in 4-H as well as WSCA shows.
  • June 28th - Games 
  • This clinic will focus on various gaming events. The instructor will start with poles and barrels events, answering questions and will provide feedback before moving on to other events as time allows.  
  • The clinician is a 4-H alumni that has shown western most of her 4-H participation.  She has shown in 4-H as well as WSCA shows.  

July 12th - Horsemanship Western 

  • This clinic will focus on the Western part of the 4-H horse show.  Most of the youth in Stearns County 4-H show in western attire, but the discussion in this clinic will focus on what you wear, as well as what you would need for your horse. From the clipping of the ears to the polish on the feet. You are welcome to bring your horse to this clinic, if desired. 
  • The clinician is a 4-H alumni that has shown western most of her 4-H participation.  She has shown in 4-H as well as WSCA shows.  

July 19th - Pre-Fair All Participant Meeting  

  • This meeting will include a tour of the fairgrounds, and a question and answer period to help all members feel comfortable for the Stearns County Fair. 
  • A pizza meal will be provided free of charge.  
  • No horse necessary for this meeting. 

Important Details:

  • You must be in control of your horse at all times. 
  • A negative coggins is required for each clinic. Before unloading your horse, you will be required to show proof of a negative test result. 
  • All 4-H rules apply including the cloverbud and helmet policies. 
  • If your horse poops, please clean it up and put it in your trailer. 

Cost: 

  • $5/youth for each clinic - maximum of $15 per family. 
  • Money to be paid to Anita Dobmeier each week. (Checks may be written out to “Stearns County 4-H”)
  • A sign up genius will be sent out weekly to sign up for the following week’s clinic.
