Roseau County Farm Family

Marlin and Suzanne Elton

The Elton family farm is located at Pinecreek in northern Minnesota’s Roseau County. The farm was homesteaded in 1892 by Marlin’s great-grandparents, Johannes and Inger Elton. It was passed down through the family to Marlin’s grandparents, Martin and Selma, then his parents, Melvin and Jennie. Melvin passed away at an early age and Marlin took over the farm at 16.

Marlin and Suzanne have three children. Their son, Mark, now farms with his father. They raise 1,500 acres of bluegrass, ryegrass, wheat and soybeans. The Eltons’ daughter Tami and her husband, Kirby, have three children including Beth and her husband, Asher, Evan and Alissa. The Eltons’ daughter Heather and her husband, Cory, have three children: Avril, Braxton and Carter. Mark and Kelly have three children: Elsa, Bjorn, and Freya.

Marlin served on the Pinecreek Church board, the Badger Elevator Board, and the Minnesota Canola Council. He was a clerk for Dieter Township and currently serves on the Pinecreek Airport Commission.

Suzanne was employed as an LPN at Roseau Medical Clinic for almost 40 years. She taught Sunday School at Pinecreek Lutheran Church and was a member of the WELCA. She is currently retired but volunteers at Lifecare Medical Center in Roseau and helps on the farm.
