Any 4-H member wishing to participate in the 4-H Beef Project in Roseau County, including showing at the Roseau County fair. Recently, we met for a mandatory beef project meeting on Sunday, Jan 29. If you missed the meeting, it is your responsibility to contact the Extension office to get a copy of the recording to view on your own time and be familiar with the shared information.
First, the group decided to offer an official beef weigh in and group ID day. That will take place on Saturday, February 11th at 10:00 a.m. at the Waage Farm Beef Feedlot, rural Greenbush. If you would like to participate in the RATE OF GAIN contest, awarded at the Roseau County 4-H Beef Show at the fair, you are REQUIRED to have a beginning weight from this scale on this date. We encourage all members who are able to participate in this group to weigh and ID the beef projects together. However, if you are not able or do not wish to participate in the RATE OF GAIN contest (Gr. 3+), you are not required to participate. The rate of gain prize will likely be a belt buckle, cash or gift certificate as discussed at the meeting.
Second, You are responsible for properly tagging and IDentifying your beef steer project(s) which includes beef steers, dairy steers and market heifers by FEBRUARY 15. Do not wait to get your official 4-H Ear Tags from our UMN Extension/4-H office, put them in the animals ear and enter the required information into 4-H online.
Third, please call (218-463-1052) or email to request ear tags before coming to the office to pick them up. Tell us your name, how many you need and we will have them ready for your pick up.
Fourth, If you are looking for beef project animals to lease or possibly purchase you can connect with Martyn Novacek, volunteer beef coordinator for ideas or Marin Eeg family has animals available.
If you have any questions, please call or email. DO NOT WAIT UNTIL FEB 15 to complete this requirement.
