Earlier this year, Scott County 4-H member, Maria Braun, was selected as a State 4-H Ambassador. For the next year, she will participate in a variety of activities to promote and represent 4-H and plan and implement high quality programming for Minnesota’s youth. Here’s a little more about her.
Name - Maria Braun
Club – Shakopee Super Seekers
Grade – 12th
Years in 4-H – since before I was born! This year will be my 13th year
County 4-H involvement – I have been my club president for a couple of years. I am a Scott County 4-H Ambassador. We plan county level events, service project and organize/encourage other youth to get involved in 4-H. I have been in almost every project area under the sun. My favorite is Fine Arts & Crafts.
How did you become interested in becoming a State Ambassador?
I love our County Ambassador program and I was looking for a way to make an impact at a higher level. I wanted to find a larger opportunity to get the word out about 4-H. My friend who was a State Ambassador two years ago encouraged me to try out for it when I got old enough.
What is the process?
First you complete an application. Next, if selected, you participate in an interview and give a presentation about a 4-H learning experience you have had. They also ask you questions about your experiences. After that, after a few weeks of waiting, I received a letter of acceptance. I was overjoyed and super exited to become a State 4-H Ambassador!
What do you want to do this year?
I hope to encourage at least one person to stay in 4-H and make a change in their own county or club. I think it’s important to come up with new ideas on how to get people involved. Help encourage them to participate. I want to work with the county Ambassadors to become more involved. It’s not a big time commitment. We have fun too
