Fillmore County Summer Intern Introduction

Fillmore County Summer Intern Introduction

By Tanner Marquardt, University of Minnesota Extension

PRESTON, Minn. (05/23/2023) — Hello, my name is Tanner Marquardt. I am from Mabel, Minnesota. I am working as the University of Minnesota Extension Intern in Fillmore County this summer. I will be focusing on agriculture production systems, horticulture and natural resources. I chose Extension because I wanted to explore the professional side of agriculture. I will be working with Local Extension Educator, Katie Drewitz, on a number of projects including farm safety, tractor safety, pasture management field day, as well as radio and newspaper articles.

During high school I was a member of the Mabel Busy Bees 4-H club. While in 4-H, I showed sheep at the county and state levels and a few national shows. I was also a member of the Mabel-Canton FFA, during which time I showed sheep at the state fair. Both of these experiences led me to start my own registered Dorset sheep flock while in seventh grade. I was also a member of boy scouts, and while in Scouts, I was inducted into the Order of the Arrow.

I just finished my sophomore year at South Dakota State University and am majoring in Agricultural Science. I hope to have a job in agriculture after I graduate and would like to use this opportunity to find more opportunities within the industry.

I started my internship on May 15th and will be here through the beginning of August. I am looking forward to being the Fillmore County Agriculture summer intern and looking forward to all the things that I will learn and the people I will meet. If you have questions or programming ideas please reach out to the Fillmore or Houston County Extension office at 507-765-3896 or 507-725-5807.
