Cass County Farm Family

Leverington Farm and Ranch

Greg and Dana Leverington

Greg's grandfather, Les Leverington, arrived in Cass County in 1903 and began farming one mile from the current Leverington Farm and Ranch site. Greg and Dana's farm was purchased by Greg's parents, Glen and Rena, in 1941. They raised sheep and pigs and milked cows on 160 acres.

In 1957, Glen and Rena purchased a D-14 Allis Chalmers tractor and some Black Angus cows and later added 200 acres to their property. Glen was a founding member of the Minnesota Cattlemen’s Association in 1964.

Greg and his parents started milking cows in 1972, so Greg has been milking cows for over 50 years. Currently, Greg and Dana, along with their family, run 170 beef cows, 30 dairy cows, a small feedlot and back-grounding calves on 960 acres. They raise hay and corn for silage.

Greg is the main farmer, rancher, and caretaker of the farm. Dana helps with feeding and taking care of the dairy calves. She also cooks meals for the family. Daughters Jenny and Kristy help with calving and cow/calf vaccination days, record keeping, haying and other chores.

Sons-in-law James and Justin help with the cattle along with carpenter and mechanic jobs. The grandkids, Everett, Quentin, Emilia, and Makenna, like to be outside and a part of everything that goes on around the farm.

Greg served as secretary of the Minnesota Cattlemen’s Association; he and Dana are both members of the group. Dana was treasurer of the local township board and the Cass County Township Association. Jenny and Kristy were Cass County Dairy Princesses and Greg and Dana are members of Maple Hill Lutheran Church in Pine River.
