Live It! Real-Life Nutrition for Teens

Live It! Real-Life Nutrition for Teens is an educational program for adolescents in grades 9 to 12 that teaches them to make nutrient-rich food choices.

Objectives

Participants in Live It! Real-Life Nutrition for Teens will:

  • Students will understand terms related to nutrition.
  • Learn what foods are most nutrient rich.
  • Interpret MyPlate and Dietary Guidelines messages.
  • Read and be able to analyze nutrition facts labels.
  • Understand diet and link to lifelong health.

Space and time requirements

This program consists of nine lessons that can each be taught in one standard class period (about 45-60 minutes). Sessions can be adapted to meet the learning needs of participants, and within reason to fit the space and time needs of the partnering agency.

More information

The lessons in Live It! Real-Life Nutrition for Teens feature creative activities designed to improve student awareness and knowledge and lead to behavior change. A “Booster” section outlines activities to use throughout the year to apply knowledge and support behavior changes. Other features include the “Tip of the Day” and “Try It Today” recipes; handouts, worksheets, and activity cards; full-color “Live It!” food charts; and student assessment options.
