Backyard and small flock poultry workshops

See this page in: English

Join UMN experts to review some of the challenges and solutions for small-scale and backyard poultry. Backyard bird keepers and small flock poultry producers will learn about poultry bird predators, pests and diseases that can greatly impact small flocks.

These workshops are designed for beginning chicken keepers in urban and rural settings, and for those with interest in learning more about caring for chickens. Experienced bird keepers will find the workshops helpful as well.

Topics to be covered:

  • Pest and predator control
  • Avian anatomy and physiology
  • Disease identification and response
  • Occasional issues associated with keeping birds such as cannibalism, cloacal prolapse, broken wing or leg, frostbite, moldy feed, ascites and hens not laying.

Speakers include experts and specialists from the University of Minnesota Extension and the Department of Animal Science, Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory, Veterinary Public Health and Preventative Medicine.

All events start registration at 9:30 a.m. and workshops run from 10:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Cost is $10 per person or $20 per household (up to 3 people per household).
