Tree planting rejuvenates Devil Track Lake campground
Minnesota’s northern region was significantly altered by old-growth logging and fires in the early 1900s. Trees that were planted at the time at Devil Track Lake campground in Grand Marais are nearing the end of their life cycles. This makes them vulnerable to blowdowns and climate change.
Dave Klett, a participant in Extension’s tree planting and care class, planted white pine seedlings to practice proper tree planting techniques during the class led by Sarah Waddle, Extension educator.
With 16 camp sites, lake fishing and a trail that opens to snowmobiling in the winter, this campground in the Superior National Forest is worth preserving for future generations.
