Minnesota Food Charter in Action events
University of Minnesota Extension supported nine “Minnesota Food Charter in Action” events in November and December 2017. Extension is the lead partner of engagement of the Minnesota Food Charter Network.
These events brought together community members, elected officials, and food access leaders. The goals were to:
Build and strengthen relationships.
Recognize and share local efforts around healthy food access.
Identify challenges, community-driven solutions, and policy priorities.
Build momentum for inclusive collaboration and next steps for action.
Event notes and evaluations
These events were supported by a statewide steering committee and nine event planning teams.
The steering committee developed shared templates to support event planning that could be used by the local planning teams if they chose. Each steering committee member also served as a liaison for an event to support successful implementation and critical weaving of information across all nine events.
The steering committee included representatives from the Minnesota Food Charter Network, Minnesota Farmers Union, Terra Soma, American Heart Association, Hunger Solutions, Second Harvest Heartland, the Center for Prevention at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota, and the Minnesota Department of Health.
Event planning teams
Each event had a planning co-lead that supported a team made up of food charter champions. Each planning team also had at least two University of Minnesota Extension staff members and additional administrative support from a member of the steering committee.
