Robbie and Jay Schmidt Family
Robbie is the fifth generation of the family to farm in western Minnesota’s Traverse County. He still farms some of the ground first homesteaded in the 1890s. Robbie took over the family farm from his father, Lee, who is still involved in the farm operation.
The Schmidts grow corn, soybeans, and wheat on 1,600 acres and use a variety of cover crops on some of their land.
Robbie and Jay’s children, Taylin and Carver, help around the farm as needed.
Robbie serves as treasurer of the Traverse County Sportsman’s Club. He also works with the local soil and water conservation district to promote the use of cover crops in the county. Jay has coached Wheaton-Herman-Norcross High School volleyball and heads up the area’s youth volleyball program.
