Learn from experienced 4-H youth, leaders and poultry professionals about bird selection, nutrition, housing, grooming and showing. This is a series for the whole family - with special sessions for adults that will provide instructions for purchasing and identifying poultry for the fair, enrolling in 4-H Online, maintaining accurate 4-H records, the cost of raising poultry and the future of poultry production. This camp will be held over three sessions: Session 1: Saturday, April 1, 2023, 9 a.m. - 3 p.m., at Wadena National Guard Armory  Learn more about the poultry project and what birds are included. You will hear about housing, fencing and the physical needs of poultry. Speakers will discuss biosecurity, diseases (including testing) and poultry nutrition. You will leave this session knowing how to identify bird types/breeds and what to look for when purchasing your first bird or flock. Session 2: Saturday, June 3, 2023, 10 a.m. - 3 p.m., at Wadena County Fairgrounds  Bring your own birds (if you can) to learn about washing, handling and showing poultry. There will also be a mock showmanship class to prepare exhibitors for the county fair, possibly a judging class and grilling competition.  Session 3: Saturday, October 7, 2023, 9 a.m. - noon, held virtually via Zoom Families will have the opportunity to celebrate their accomplishments, complete 4-H records and look ahead to the following year’s goals. Zoom meeting information will be provided upon registration.  This program is supported by the Wadena County 4-H Livestock Project Development Committee, Wright County 4-H Poultry Club, Lakes Area Cooperative and the University of Minnesota Extension. Audience

4-H youth in all grades and their parents/guardians

Cost

$30 per family for all three (3) sessions. This fee includes lunch and snacks.

Registration

Register each youth that will be attending in 4-H Online by March 24.
